Tips & Tricks for Date Night Ideas on the Road

A date night is a great way to break away from your ordinary routine and take time to focus on each other. Even though you might spend hours together during your RV travels, having special time dedicated to your relationship is still important and fun! Making the effort to plan an evening that stands out from your normal activities helps to keep the romance alive. Actually, it doesn’t even have to be evening…you can carve out this important couple time during any part of the day.

While date nights are fun whether you are in a house or on the road, traveling in an RV truly offers unique opportunities that being in one place might not. It is easier to get out and explore new places or do activities that aren’t available at home. Sharing these new experiences together, whether simple or extravagant, will provide lasting memories and bonding for years to come. Here are some tips for easy date night ideas that are RV travel friendly.

Enjoy Nature

When you are RVing, there are usually options nearby to enjoy the beauty of nature. Take an early morning hike together to watch the sun come up or find the perfect spot to view an amazing sunset. If you plan to stay and do some stargazing, you might even pack a picnic dinner and/or a bottle of wine. Daybreak and twilight are usually less crowded times on the trails so you will be able to appreciate the peacefulness and wonder of the outdoors during your special time together. Hot springs are another romantic location to take your date. We have been to several places and enjoy relaxing in the heated waters and letting stress and soreness soak away. Luckily there are lots of geothermal hot springs in the US with many of the best ones located in the western part of the country. Check out our favorite Hot Springs here.

Have Fun Browsing

If a nature outing isn’t for you, there are other unique places that you can try. Find an area museum and stroll around together. The exhibits are good discussion starters and offer new and interesting topics. Maybe checking out flea markets or antique shops is more your style. We have fun looking for items we remember growing up and sharing stories of our childhood. You can get information on local places to see and events from the camp office, chamber of commerce, or by doing an internet search.

Stay Around Camp

You don’t even have to leave your campground to find opportunities for a romantic evening, though. There’s nothing better than grilling a great steak and relaxing by the campfire. After dinner you can make some gooey s’mores (my favorite!) and enjoy a glass of wine. If it gets chilly, snuggle under a blanket together and look up at all of the amazing stars in the sky. You might be able to spot some of the constellations or even a shooting star (hint: download one of the easy-to-use stargazing apps to help identify stars, planets and even satellites). Make it a Surprise

A great way to make your date night an adventure is to take turns doing the planning. This gives you a chance to seek out activities that you find interesting or exciting and share them with your mate. Sometimes the surprise is half the fun, and you get a feel for what your partner enjoys. You should agree to a few guidelines ahead of time like spending limits, giving notice for which day you will go, and being open-minded. Yes, even something you aren’t crazy about can be special if you go in with a positive attitude and plan to enjoy the company of your significant other!

Date Night Your Way

The key to successful date nights is really just to spend quality time with your loved one. Sometimes you can get so used to being in the same space and going about your routine that you forget to appreciate each other. It’s just as easy for that to happen when you are RVing as it is living in a house. Being purposeful about having date night brings the relationship back into focus.

As you know, the great thing about RV travel is that you have the world at your doorstep. Take advantage of all the opportunities in the areas you visit for some unique date night options. In the end, though, just making time for each other will nurture the relationship no matter what activity you do. Happy travels!
