National Chocolate Chip Day: Simple and Delicious Chocolate Chip Recipes for Every Occasion

May 15, 2020 | 5 min read

The year was 1937, and little did Ruth Graves Wakefield know, she was about to make history. When the American chef added chopped up bits from a Nestle semi-sweet chocolate bar into a cookie, the newly inventive sweet treat was initially reported as an accident. The Great American Chocolate Chip Cookie Book: Scrumptious Recipes and Fabled History from Toll House to Cookie Cake Pie sets the record straight. In a quote from Wakefield she explains, "We had been serving a thin butterscotch nut cookie with ice cream. Everybody seemed to love it, but I was trying to give them something different, so I came up with a Toll House cookie."

83 years later, the chocolate chip cookie holds the rank as the most popular kind of cookie in America. It is estimated that seven billion chocolate chip cookies are eaten annually in the states! With today being the beloved National Chocolate Chip Day, we decided the fun holiday would best be celebrated by bringing your our favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes that can easily be made in your RV or at your campsite.
