Feb 22, 2019 | 11 min read

Dare we say there is anyone who doesn't enjoy the taste of a new city? Our trip to Colorado was packed with Outdoor Retailer, Dips in Hot Springs and a full on Road Trip. While in Denver, we decided to really understand the growing city by getting right into its most famous scene - the food. We ate our way through the streets and we are better for it. From coal fired pizza to gourmet dogs you won't believe, check out our food guide to the Mile High City. The best part about this guide is that all the restaurants are within walking distance from each other so you can park your RV once and get right to eating!

Stowaway
Address:
2528 Walnut St | Denver, CO 80205
For the Early Bird
Let us introduce you to Stowaway, a cozy cafe in the heart of Denver serving up a delicious menu of globally inspired breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes. In their own words, "In our kitchen, we aim to create nourishment for a young heart, an old soul and everything in between." And that they do. You cannot leave without trying the kara-a-ge chicken sando (Japanese friend chicken with jojo's siracha mayo, carrot and ginger slaw with pickles on a brioche bun) or the spicy tofu bahn mi. We also highly recommend the Boxcar Bottlerocket nitro draft cold brew for coffee drinkers and the sanctuary chai for those who prefer a decaf morning drink.

Marcos Coal Fired Pizza
Address: 2119 Larimer St | Denver, CO 80205
For the Lover of Authentic Foods
There's no denying the European roots of Marcos. This pizzeria imported their dough mixer, The La Vittoria, from Naples, Italy, their flour, Antico Molino Caputo, is also imported from Italy and their San Marzano tomatoes are, you guessed it, a product of Italy. If that's not authentic enough for you, they use a water filtration system that balances the PH levels to match the levels of the water in Naples! The restaurant has received countless awards, the most prestigious being the Verace Pizza Napoletana. When you go try the traditional cheese pizza. We can assure you, it's far from plain.

Butcher's Bistro
Address: 2233 Larimer St | Denver, CO 80205
For the Sustainable Eater
If you've been to Denver but haven't yet tried the cities famous breakfast spot Snooze, we're going to direct you there first. The co-owner of Snooze, which is now a chain restaurant across the States, created this full-service butcher and restaurant bistro in the heart of Denver. Known for their nose-to-tail butchery, this means the bistro uses every single piece of the animal, you won't find any wasted parts here. The restaurant has won multiple awards, including the Editor's Choice for Best Steak in 2018. Head Chef Russell visits every farm they use to ensure it's sustainable and that the animals are treated with care. One of the best parts of the bistro is that everything is local. From house-cured charcuterie to bison balls (you read correctly) you can have it all.

Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs
Address: 2148 Larimer St | Denver, CO 80205
For the Sophisticated American
Biker Jim's started as a single food cart. By word of mouth, the love for these killer hot dogs began to spread across the city bringing the owner to open a second food cart, and then a third, until finally business was in full bloom. In 2011 Biker Jim's became a brick-and-mortar and has been serving up gourmet dogs ever since. Featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations and given the title of 'Top 100 Eateries in the World,' Biker Jim's doesn't serve your average hot dog. From wild boar to Alaskan reindeer, German Veal and a rattlesnake & pheasant dogs, the sky is the limit with what you can try.
Fun Fact: Jim's wife is vegan so they also make a tasty vegan dog!

Mercantile Dining & Provisions

Welcome to Mercantile, the most sophisticated corner store, restaurant and market blend in the city. Mercantile has their own farm where they raise hogs, honey bees and sheep as well as grow their own vegetable and fruit gardens. This is the only farm in town that has sheep's milk dairy, which is notoriously hard to get milk out of, but it is incredibly delicious and worth the effort to the owners. Head Chef Alex Seidel is an eight-time James Beard award nominee (which is more prestigious and harder to achieve than a Michelin Chef). Try the charcuterie, cheeses, spices, jams and confit from the market (and stock your RV with these goodies!) or dine in the restaurant with options like roasted beets, smoked Spanish mackerel, foraged mushroom risotto and hand-made pastas.
