he easiest way to go about storing your RV, is to have some land and the ability to story your RV on your own property. This may secretly be every camper's dream! If you have the land, I recommend building a carport with easy access, to keep your rig away from the elements. Additionally, if you can bring some power to the RV, you may want to consider keeping your vehicle plugged, especially if you live in cold or hot and humid climates.

Storing Your RV On A Friend's Lot
Asking a friend to store your rig at their house can be a cheap option but has some downfalls. Is your friend ok with having your rig there or are they just too nice to say no? Is the storage location safe? Is the property well maintained so that tree branches won't fall on your RV? How about extensive rain? Will it flood the land and make it difficult to get out?
Also, what would happen if your rig sustains damage and vandalizing? Who is responsible? Do you really want to come after your friend for damages if they allowed you to store it there?

Storing Your RV At A Mixed-Storage Facility
Many storage facilities have a mixture of storage units including spots for RV storage. From our experience, the RV storage of a mixed-storage facility is often an afterthought of how to bring in additional income, rather than a well-designed RV storage place.
Spots can be tight, the access to your storage space can be challenging and the management may not consider RV needs when creating rules and making design decisions. This doesn't mean that every mixed-storage facility is a bad option, it is just important to take a look in person at the facility before committing to storing your RV there.
Take your car the exact same way the RV would need to go to get to the storage space and ask yourself, whether there is sufficient space to turn your rig around safely on a frequent basis? How easy is it to get in and out and is there a lot of traffic for the other type of storage that may make it difficult to get in and out easily?
We personally store our RV in a mixed-storage facility. Our facility has a separate entrance for trucks and RVs and it is great to know that your rig is in a safe and professional storage facility.

Storage facilities that specialize in RV storage will obviously be a great choice for storing your rig. These type of storage facilities often have generous spacing and are designed to allow moving large size vehicles. Many RV storage facilities even offer covered parking and full hook ups to make sure your battery is charged.
In some mountainous areas, you may even find indoor RV storage facilities that are either underground or fully indoor! Usually, RV storage facilities are the most expensive option when it comes to storing your RV.

RV 101 - Best Options To Store Your RV
Overall, when looking for the best option to store your RV, you need to think about what is most important to you. We like to go on many weekend trips, so having a storage facility nearby, and with easy in-and-out access is very important to us.
Additionally, we needed a facility that can accommodate a 42ft rig and allows early and late access. Lastly, we want the facility to be safe so that we don't have to worry about damages and theft.
You will likely find that your budget plays a big part in your decision, but things like access, safety, weather, and amenities will surely play a role in your decision making!
